Clay Matthews Leverages MMA Training All The Way To Super Bowl

Green Bay Packers Clay Matthews

Prior to hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Sunday night, Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews was around MMA heavy bags. Despite making the 2009 Pro Bowl team as an NFL rookie, the 24-year-old refused to rest on his laurels by enrolling in Randy Couture’s MMAthletics this past off season.

Together with mixed martial arts veteran and Fox Sports writer and Perfect Punch Developer Jay Glazer, “The Natural” developed a full-time training camp designed solely for athletes from other professional sports. Glazer spearheaded Matthews’ intense training regimen last summer.

With all due respect to their athletic counterparts, Couture and Glazer believe MMA fighters are the world’s best conditioned specimens. Mixed martial artists literally defend their lives in combat, so pushing their bodies beyond their breaking points on a daily basis is just par for the course.

Jared Allen paved the way for NFL players a few years ago when he started working at Arizona Combat Sports. One of the game’s best pass rushers claimed it was “the most important thing I did to help my career.”

According to Glazer, Matthews has significantly strengthened and increased the speed of his hand strikes – a more violent version of the hand slap. The technique dislodges offensive linemen’s arms from his body, allowing Matthews to maintain his momentum in order to get in the backfield to make plays.

In addition, MMA training has shown him how to maximize the leverage in his six foot three inch frame.

Matthews tallied 13.5 sacks this past season, the fourth highest total in the league. He tacked on another 3.5 sacks during the Packers’ playoff run.

Although Troy Polamalu beat him out for 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors by two votes, Matthews took home the only award that every athlete in any sport covets, a world championship. - www.5thround.com

Clay Matthews Trains MMA Style For Football

In just his second season, Green Bay’s Pro Bowl linebacker Clay Matthews is one game away from going to the Super Bowl.

But preparaing for Sunday’s NFC Champiosnhip Game (2 p.m. ET on FOX) against the Chicago Bears didn’t start this past Monday. It began long ago. Matthews owes the majority of his success to genetics and one of the most remarkable bloodlines in NFL history.

Matthews is unlike 98 percent of the league. He constantly is looking for an extra edge, constantly looking for a way to outwork the world, whether it’s during the season or the offseason.

Before this season, Matthews tried to increase his intensity and hand speed by joining MMA Athletics, a program started by UFC legend Randy Couture and Perfect Punch developer, Jay Glazer.

Training like a cage fighter has helped Minnesota’s Jared Allen and San Francisco’s Patrick Willis, among others. Two entire teams, Atlanta and San Francisco, also got in on the action.

The benefits of the program for Matthews: It greatly strengthened and speeded up his hand strikes, made him more violent and made him think like a cage fighter. It also increased his knowledge of leverage, but more than anything else, it pushed his breaking point way beyond the limits he though he had.

NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Matthews had 13.5 sacks (fourth in the NFL), despite playing with an injured leg for much of the season, and is in contention for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award.

The video that accompanies this story is a sample of the grueling torture Matthews put himself through during the offseason to become one of the best linebackers in the game, adding that work ethic to his bloodline: His father, Clay Jr., played linebacker for 19 seasons with Cleveland and Atlanta, and his grandfather, Clay Sr., played defensive end for San Francisco. His uncle, Bruce, played 19 seasons for Houston and Tennessee.

After seeing the results he had this season, Matthews already has committed to more MMA work next season. We’re just glad we were asked along for the ride. FOX Sports

Don't Forget Your Grill Glove

Saying you truly never know what you have until it's gone may sound silly but it's true. And that's exactly how I feel regarding my Grill Glove.  I made the mistake of going a Super Bowl party filled Packers and Steelers fans.  I usually like watch these big games at home because I afraid I'll miss too mcuh of the action.  However, I figured these diehard football fans were worth the risk because I've been watching their tailgating exploits for years.  The fans of both teams are known for their tailgating so I expected a lot from them.

I may have been a little too quick to give theses guys such props.  I'm not denying they are great fans but they were true amateurs when it came to using the barbeque. It was requested that I bring some main course food but what I should have brought was my grill gloves.  We had plenty of chicken, steaks and ribs but not enough space on the grill to get them cooked in an efficient manner.  I've been able to shed almost all my utensils since I started using the grill glove.  The only thing you can't do with is cut your food.

None of this was any of my concern until somebody asked me to be the master of the grill. I wasn't looking for the honor but I really couldn't turn it down. But here's where realized how great the Grill Glove. Once you've used it control your cooking space, it is hard to use anything else.  As the grill master, my Super Bowl experience took a turn for the worse.

I did take a little comfort in the fact that this was temporary and I truly appreciated the glove I would have brought had I know I was cooking. I've become accustomed to putting my gloved hand right in the flames without getting burned and this was not something I could do today.  Besides feeling safer around the flames, the design is what lets you control the food better.  You never need to use a spatula to flip or a fork to serve.  Just grab the food and toss it on a bun or a plate.  It is a more efficient process, especially on the go.

Had I had any reason to suspect that I might had the only skills at the party to properly man the grill, I would have planned ahead and brought along my handy accessory and made my life a lot easier.  I could have spent some more time watching Clay Matthews causing fumbles or Hinds Ward making tough catches

Just that fact that you can clean it with ease makes it better than any traditional glove or oven mitt. When you think about all of the old burnt on food particles staining every pot holder in America it is pretty gross. So it is strange that nobody thought about developing such a product in the past but since it's here now I'm hoping that more people will find out about it. It would have been nice to have had one during today's big game.  I missed a lot of big plays in the first quarter trying to dole out the brats with the tongs.

Clay Matthews - Is Mixed Martial Arts the Key to His Success?

Author: Coleen Goralski

Autographed Clay Matthews 'Storm Chaser'

By now everybody is familiar with the story about Clay Matthews III being undersized in high school. So much so that his own father did not play him due to his small stature. What some people may not know is that Clay has added mixed martial arts to his workout routine. Could mixed martial arts be the key to his success?

Clay's incredible physique is proof of his dedication in the weight room. While in USC he was thought of as the most intense player in the weight room. Putting on 80 pounds is no easy feat! He was able to makeover his 165 pound 6' 1" frame into the 255 pound linebacker he is today. He was so dedicated to the game and his own personal improvement he has said that he basically had no social life.

Clay III is always looking for ways to improve be it watching films or listening to the advice of his famous football family and recently he has added MMA training or mixed martial arts to his workout in the off-season. At first he was skeptical thinking it would not relate to football but in and interview while at MMAthletics he said, "..everything we do in here somehow relates to what we do on the football field'. The benefits of mixed martial arts is not only the mental toughness but a completely different kind of workout than most ball players are accustomed to. Using body on body work rather than traditional weight training; leverage, balance, knees and hips are worked in a completely new way for most players. Many football players just getting into MMA believe it gives them an edge on the field. The Atlanta Falcons must agree, they were the first NFL team to offer MMA training to their players. Clay III said he could feel his body transforming while doing mixed martial arts and I'm sure other players will also see Clay's improvements and want to try it out as well.

Clay Matthews III is an outstanding example of hard work and sheer dedication. From a small hopeful to a force to be reckoned with he is finally coming into his own and could possibly be named Defensive Player of the Year. He is certainly a fan favorite in Green Bay with Packers fans! See this celebrated Packer here

Why You Need A Business Loans Consultant

The Reasons You DO NOT Want to Manage the Business Loan Process on Your Own.

We are often asked, “Why do I need to pay a consultant to assist me in obtaining business loans?  I have perfect credit, can’t I just do it on my own?”  On the surface this statement seems to make perfect sense, however, since the mortgage meltdown and ensuing credit crisis, like Elvis, “sense” has left the bank building.  All the rules have been rewritten on how to obtain business loans and what the banks are looking for and what lending triggers they use to grant a business loan.  Everyday we have new clients that come to us after being turned down by their bank of 20+ years.  This has nothing to do with creditworthiness, but rather, not understanding what programs and lending biases each bank utilizes when underwriting their business loans.  Before you venture down the road of do-it-yourself business loan development and ruin your personal and potentially your business’s credit, please consider the following:

  • Lender Selection – In this post subprime lending paradigm, selecting the appropriate lending institution is quite possibly the most important single criteria when beginning the business loan application process.  There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of banks  and credit unions in this country.  Which banks will loan to small businesses with stated income applications? Start-ups?  Do not require collateral?  Have the best interest/promo rate?  The sheer number of banks offering business loans is daunting.  True, each bank will give general guidelines on how they underwrite business loans, however, the actual nitty gritty is proprietary and until an application is submitted, the borrower will never truly know what the bank will do.  Using a trial and error method to figure this out will absolutely ruin your ability to get future credit for yourself and your business.  I can’t count the number of clients that have come to us after trying to obtain business loans on their own.  Unfortunately, at that point their credit has been littered with inquiries and we can only say “sorry, contact us in 6 months and we’ll try again at that point.”  We have developed a systematic business loan application process that includes only the banking partners and programs we know your business can qualify for on the absolute best terms.
  • Guideline Changes – Banks’ business loan guidelines and underwriting methodologies are constantly changing.  Strategies to acquire business loans that work today, may not work tomorrow.  This is the very reason Seed Capital has developed the most robust, dynamic lender database in the industry that monitors hundreds of banks and their respective business loan underwriting preferences in real time.  This gives Seed Capital instant access to the what, who and how much a particular bank is lending at any time, allowing our consultants to fashion a lender/business loan application strategy tailored to each our client’s individual needs, credit profile and geography.  This unparalleled understanding of business loan underwriting procedures is the very reason Seed Capital is the only company in the business loan industry that offers an unequivocal performance guarantee.
  • Reconsideration Requests – If a bank says no, do you know who to talk to and what to say in order to turn that no into a yes?  Our years of working with business loan underwriters has given us a deep insight into how to use reconsideration requests to get credit approvals.  80% of business loan underwriting is initially done with what is called an automated underwriter (AU) which is a computer program that scrubs the applicant’s credit, considers additional variables such as income and spits out a business loan decision based on that input data.  AU’s are plagued with issues and often decline business loan applications for quirky reasons.  With Seed Capital’s consultation, our clients are able to turn initial business loan declines into approvals roughly 90% of the time.  This is because we are able to analyze the decline reasons, assist the client in formulating a reconsideration request and know exactly which individual in each lending institution they need to speak with in order to get their business loan declines overturned
  • Window Dressing – You may think that you have perfect personal credit, however, close to 75% of our clients need some form of “window dressing”.  This is a term we have coined that simply means making minor tweaks to the personal credit report in order to get the most business loan approvals with maximum limits and the lowest rates.  We understand exactly what credit criteria on which the banks base their business loan approvals.  Our consultation can mean the difference in getting a $20,000 business loan on your own, or $150,000 in business loans with our window dressing techniques.

These are just a handful of reasons on why you need an expert to assist you in wading through the intimidating world of business loans.  In the business loans world there is absolutely no substitute for experience and know-how.  Seed Capital will ensure you get the maximum working capital business loan up front and build a perfect business credit rating in just a few short months.  At that point, you will never need to worry about your business’s working capital needs ever again.  GUARANTEED.

Reviewing The Perfect Punch

There have been several recent perfect punch online in the recent months but few mention one of the best features of the product.  I'm thrilled that you can now train MMA without any pain!

If you train a lot, especially if you do a lot of bag work, you will start to accumulate little injuries.  But, you need to hit the bag in order to create your improve strength and hone your technique. Jay Glazer's perfect punch allows you to do MMA training while making the most out of your bag work by eliminating it.  You really shouldn't be using MMA gloves to hit the heavy bag in the first place but let's face it, if that's what we have, that's what we use.  Standard MMA gloves simply don't contain enough padding to handle all the shock we put on the hands and wrists.

In fact, with Jay Glazer's Perfect Punch you don't have to hit anything at all but can get an even more thorough workout than if you were hitting a bag.  First, if you are training allot then you know it becomes increasingly more difficult to punch yourself to exhaustion because you become used to hitting the bag.  The no impact progressive resistance will actually slow your punches down but require more force to complete your striking motion.  As a result you will tire quicker.

The next reason it is so much better than heavy bag work is that there is no bag at all.  Think about it, how many times do you actually make impact during a bag session?  A lot, and the accumulation of impacts takes its toll on your wrists and hands no matter strong you may be.  So being able to work on technique, speed and power without a single blow should be very intriguing.  Especially without fear of any injury.  No impact is just means no impact and regardless if you are currently injured or just trying to prevent a new one, you will not need any recovery time after using the perfect punch.  Sustaining injuries during heavy bag training can ruin your training schedule.

Many other reasons to use the Perfect Punch MMA training system have been mentioned in other online reviews but I wanted to make sure that people understand how important a no impact training alternative actually is.  But, don't dismiss this as an easy workout routine.  Avoiding impact does not mean you can't get the same, if not more, benefits.  The fifteen minute sessions which come with the system are easy to understand but extremely challenging to do.  Even the most experienced fighters will have trouble completing them which leads me to believe in the value of this as a fitness tool.

MMA Training With Jay Glazer

The perfect punch is my latest entry in my reviews on As Seen On TV items that work. This is a rare pleasure to find things advertised on infomercials that actually live up to their own hype, especially when it comes to fitness products.

I'm pretty thrilled about Jay Glazer's perfect Punch . This is one of the latest fitness products on the market, & it is really something. First, when I saw it, it just so cool. Mixed Martial Arts is the hottest games on the earth these days & the gear associated with a fighter who just exudes coolness. Every man in the world secretly wants to fight for they admit it or not, & as far as I know that this is the first product that works on punching technique.

This isn't one of those silly ab products which promise total fitness without lifting weights, this product combines shadow boxing with progressive resistance training to improve hitting technique while creating more speed & power. So basically, it might be a good workout. But there is no denying that it looks like the commercial, this isn't 1 to sit still & get in shape systems. You'll be working!

This is precisely  why the Perfect Punch is in the as seen on TV products that work column, because there is no promise that this product will do the work for you. When you use it you will punch yourself to the edge of exhaustion if you continue.

Just in case you have'nt seen the product advertised on TV, here is a description. It consists of high quality MMA training, 2 resistance bands a mixed martial arts training video made by Fitness Celebrity Jay Glazer. This is basic & easy to use, making it even more attractive. But does it work? How do I know? I am not a professional fighter. But I'm a person who wants to get into shape.

The Perfect Punch was created by Jay Glazer that an MMA trainer in addition to its rights to broadcast Fox Sports, was approved by MMA Fighter Dan Henderson I've no real evidence that a user will have a better fighter for so much technique, strength & speed. Only time will tell if more soldiers are used. "But, based on a normal person looking for a good workout, I can say without a doubt, this works.

From the first time you glove up & start punching you can feel the burn in your shoulders & arms. After a minute or two, you are totally wiped out. It's unbelievable that real warriors have three min rounds because it's extremely difficult to keep striking for this period.

The more time you spend the perfect punch, the stronger you get. The progressive resistance of some kind is responsible for this & is also responsible for increasing speed. Feedback form is a strip on each glove that lets you know if your technique needs work. DVD is good enough to keep you motivated & gives a great workout routine for all levels. So in my opinion the perfect Punch system has it all. Simple, effective & fun. I smell 1 that can be seen on the TV smash hit that'll probably go over to the shops, but again, only time will tell.

Perfect Punch review

It is getting close to the end of 2010 and this when I like to put my best of’s product reviews. 2010 was a stellar year the stupid, and the more stupid. It was a time when we the bad get worse. But in the As Seen On TV fitness world we saw the tough get tougher.

My As Seen On TV fitness pick is Jay Glazer’s Perfect Punch. It released late in 2010 and it is so good, I’m going to name it the product of the year, red shirt, and let it start all over in 2011 and win the product of the year then too. It’s that good! Why?

The way I judge a product is not that hard and requires no statistical analysis. My main criteria for choosing the Perfect Punch to be the best was the fact that I did not hate it. That is how bad the products were this year. But the punch is different and deserves some attention.

Perfect Punch is just plain cool and therefore the marketers will not have to trick people into buying it. They will run some ads, offer great deals online and masses will want this thing. The reason you ask? Again it is simple.

Real professional fighters, be it MMA or boxers, actually use the Perfect Punch to increase their punching speed, work on their technique and develop greater punching power. Fighters are tough and very fit. I seriously doubt that any tough guy with a fight on the line would use a product that makes him less tough. And that alone will be the basis of the demand for this product.

One of the most important factors in training is doing effective reps. Repetition is crucial for success and that is why you see fighters training tirelessly. The Perfect Punch system will allow fighters to get the most out of each rep and this can translate into victory in the ring.

So now, we too can be a the top of our game as well. We don’t have to get into the ring but the makers of the Perfect Punch have devised a way to bring punching training to the masses in an easy to do and inexpensive way. You use your MMA Training Gloves as instructed and you punch your way to fitness. The low impact workout is based on progressive resistance repetitions and it is a killer. It will wipe you out but the reps aren’t hard to do. You might even think the punches are too easy but once you do about five you will recant that thought. It is the aerobic training and the punching motion that will do you in but I guarantee you will enjoy this workout. It is different than any thing out in the marketplace right now.

The perfect punch is a completely new workout program. This is not some old workout machine that is painted a new color and resold to the public through infomercials. This is an innovative workout system which will change the way you workout and motivate you to stay in shape. The concept is based on simple shadow boxing technique but Jay Glazer has updated the training to relate to today’s modern MMA Fighters.

As I mentioned above this is a brand new release but it really is the best thing to happen in fitness in 2010. I imagine the marketing will heat up in 2011 and we will begin to see commercials and offers everywhere. As much as I enjoy making fun of infomercial products there is really nothing here to lampoon. The Perfect Punch is the real deal and I’m glad I found it.

Clay Matthews Loses Super Bowl Battle Of The Hair

What a week for Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers.  I was a bit upset that he didn't win the NFL defensive player of the year due to some guy named Troy on the Steelers. Now it turns out Matthews is taking second prize in the NFL battle of the hair.

Now Polamalu has the support of Head N Shoulders but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we will see Matthews dome starring in some ads very soon.  I like his look a lot better, because frankly, it just looks easier to manage.

Now that the important stuff is out of the way, I think it is Matthews that will have a better Super Bowl on Sunday.  Polamalu is a game changer but Matthews is going to be involved in a lot more plays from his position.  Clay Matthews is definitely a monster and his often season training regiment may just be responsible for getting him through the longest NFL season of his young career.

The only drawback of being in a Super Bowl is the punishment your body has had to endure to get to that point.  Yes, the players get paid more to play in the playoffs, but year after year, playing on a great team could actually shorten a guy's career.  When you play as physical as Matthews does you better find a way to get an edge.

He and other NFL players have taken to MMA training in the off season, and Matthews trains with Fox NFL commentator Jay Glazer. MMA fans of well aware of Glazer's involvement in the sport but NFL fans might not have any idea how tough Jay Glazer really is.  He has just released the Perfect Punch MMA training system so everyone can take advantage of MMA training for fitness, and if you can't get a private coaching session like Matthews, the Perfect Punch might just be the next best thing.

Perfect Punch: Here's The Trick For Success

I have had my Perfect Punch for about a week and I do like it but it took me a few tries to get it right.  First I want to say that I've been punching a punching for some time. I really was never sure if I was doing it right because there was nobody there to teach me.  After using the perfect punch I realize that I wasn't using the proper technique and it led to some dull pain in my left wrist. I punched my way through it for the most part, but I have taken a break from my punching bag routine.

Instead, I thought I would work on my speed and power while I healed up a bit.  I love the mma gloves and the whole contraption is well made but I could not get the chest strap closed.  The directions say to put on the gloves and lower the resistance band behind you, but when I did that I couldn't grab the ends of the chest strap to fasten them. I was like a dog chasing his tail. It was pretty frustrating but I found a solution.

To get the chest strap secured I put on the gloves as directed and lowered the resistance band behind my head. But, I kept going. I lowered the band down my back until it was behind my knees.  I then closed my knees together and could easily grab the chest strap ends easily with my gloved hands.  Then I just pulled the fastened strap up into position on the chest.

I've since learned that I could just glove up, touch my hands to the ground, step in front of the resistance band and fasten.  Then it is just a matter sliding the perfect punch up from my heels into place. It is really easy to strap in this way and I suggest this method for other users.  There is a huge difference using the punch with the chest strap fastened as opposed to leaving it dangling. It really keeps the whole system in place while your punching.
